I canoe around Chadburn Lake regularly marathon race training, teach canoeing classes there and visit the lake in voyageur canoes with elementary students. The cleanliness to the water and the absence of motorized craft is a big attraction compared to Schwatka Lake which is not small boat friendly nor safe. Not safe for small boaters or migrating birds. Over the years I have seen Beavers, Muskrats, Grizzly and Black bears, Moose and Deer and Porcupines and this year I heard a Wolf while paddling on Chadburn Lake. But one of the constant attractions are birds from Kingfishers, to Bald Eagles, several times Herons and Swans and Mallards and Widgeon and Grebes and Flycatchers and Terns and my favorite, Common Loons which seem to face the ongoing problem of folks paddling with their dogs running on shore. loons nest right adjacent to shorelines and avoidance of ranging dogs requires eggs exposed to predation.
I may be wrong but with too many people using the area, often with dogs running free, whether paddling, hiking or biking, the wildlife will have to go elsewhere! When Wildlife has to go elsewhere the natural quality of the area is diminished.
